On Friday, January 26th we celebrated the life of Joan Dennehey. Joan began attending First Congregational in 1976 with her husband and became an Associate Member in 1980.
Throughout her time with us, Joan was a vital member of our church family. She served in many capacities including President of the Ray Palmer Guild, Superintendent of Sunday School, Director for Camp Medusa, Church Secretary, Chair of the Harvest Festival, and Church Moderator. She also oversaw several search committees and helped to orchestrate many of our signature events. Joan was also instrumental in helping to establish our partnership with Leslie Phelan and The South End Community Outreach Center - a partnership that continues to this day.
A line of family and friends extended out into the narthex during the wake and Joan's funeral saw the sanctuary filled to capacity - both of which speak as a testament to her positive impact on her church family and the surrounding community.
During Rev. Rogers meditation, he remarked about Joan's willingness to help out those in need and get involved whenever possible. Rev. Rogers encouraged others to follow her example and asked, "Do we have any 'Joan Denneheys' in the house today?". Remarks were also provided by John Dennehey, Joan's youngest son and church member; Lisa Dacey, niece; Louis Bannister; and Steve Parker. John Weber, Joan's eldest son, was the reader for the first lesson. Organ accompaniment was provided by Thomas Odell, Organ Fellow from The Cathedral of All Saints. A reception followed at the Albany Institute of History and Art.
The family would like to thank all those who attended and those who have contacted the family to extend their sympathies.Click any image below for the full size.
